It is really incredible to think about how impactful this little challenge was. It came about by discussing with a co-worker how we wanted to be a little bit more spontaneous. After our discussion, I started to think each day about one thing that I could do to make sure that I was being spontaneous.
The truth is that it didn’t really matter if the action was really all that spontaneous. What mattered is that there was one ‘event’ that I could highlight each day that was significant and unique from the other days. I felt like each day I was living was fuller because I was being mindful and present with one particular event each day. I could compare it to the idea that you retain more in a class when you change where you sit every lecture. If you stay in the same seat, every day blurs together.
This is the same with life. When the days start blurring together, I just feel so unaccomplished. However, taking the time to think each day about something I could do that would make the day different caused each day to become distinct.
The other incredible part of this challenge was that Caitlyn joined in too. She has since started a YouTube channel and is finding so much more fulfillment in life and her job. Her job had become a pain point since the new year, but working on herself outside of work helped energize her at work too.
I am going to reflect more on this spontaneous challenge. I am hoping that I can come up with one challenge each month to focus on.
