I Visit a Hypnotherapist Part 3/4

This session was all about giving me more tools in my spiritual tool kit, to show me ways that I am intuitive.

When I came in for the session, I mentioned to my hypnotherapist that I went to the Bohdi tree shop and when I opened the angel cards box (the cards that she previously did a reading for me on), the Chakra card was the first one. This was significant to me because it was the same card that she pulled during her reading in our last session. It was kind of an affirmation.

We first discussed the different ‘clairs’: clairvoyance, clairsentience, claircognizant, and clairaudient. I had previously read a book that helped me to understand the differences between these. I believed myself to be more claircognizant and Caitlyn to be more clairsentient.

I shared a story about how I started to see signs from my dad in the form of black birds. As I was driving one day to work, I saw this large flock of birds flying overhead from my right. I started to watch in awe as a bunch of these birds flocking together flew overhead and to my left. As my eyes followed over to the left, I saw this massive rainbow. Rainbows had already been something I attributed to my dad. However, I felt that he was saying to me that even when the rainbows are not as frequent, I could still see him through birds. I still have some very unique and strange experiences with birds.

From here, the next exercise we did was based on looking deeper into what we routinely see. She said that our conscious mind sees 3% (may need to fact check) and the remaining image of what we see is made up of logical assumption from our brains. This especially is the case for our peripheral vision. We started by staring at a single point and then breathing. Without moving my eyes, I was able to see more of what was around me as time went by. I also opened up to what I was hearing. I was being mindful and in the moment. The hypnotherapist said, ‘It is interesting what you see when you start paying attention’. The funny thing about this is that it reminded me of a future conversation I would have with a co-worker. She mentioned that I see things because I am looking for it.

I tend to agree with this line of thinking. If I am choosing to open myself up to see more than the routine, then it is only natural that I see a deeper meaning to it. Choice is the powerful motivator here, and it is ringing true throughout many books I am reading today. Many people do not choose to look deeper. These people would live by default based on what they have been told. These are two different ways of living that are each valid in their own right. However, these are two completely different realities.

The next thing that we focused on was crystals. The hypnotherapist showed me crystal grids and then continuously brought me crystals. Now crystals are interesting. I was super attracted to them as a kid. However, during this entire exercise, the hypnotherapist would put a crystal in my hand and ask me how I felt about it. This was the hardest exercise for me, because each time I would think ‘it feels like I am holding a rock’.

We discuss what crystals I am drawn to. I mention Lapis Lazuli (which is the stone inlay in my wedding band) and Malachite. When I mention Malachite, the hypnotherapist began to joke that she is scared of me. My first co-worker mentor said the same thing to me because of my fascination with Malachite. Malachite is supposedly a stone that amplifies every emotion. So the highs are very high and the lows are very low. It is interesting that the biases of these two people have caused me to rethink my fascination with this stone. Maybe one day, it will come back into my life. Either way, I am very connected to Lapis and I really enjoy having it on my wedding band. I believe the book the hypnotherapist gave me for crystals was the Crystal Bible by Judy Hall.

The next thing we discussed was automatic writing. The idea was to focus on asking a question and then writing the first thing that came to mind. This felt very similar to my previous hypnotherapy session and I also compared it to when I mow the yard. I figure this is what it must be to truly meditate. My perception of the goal of meditation was always to quiet your logical/rational mind and just let you first impressions take you to wherever you need to go. Automatic writing is this. We ‘answer’ our own questions by writing the first thing that comes to mind. The skeptic would probably say that this is just your internal thoughts projecting themselves.

Today, I believe that our brain is an antenna that receives information from everywhere: the other side, nature, other people’s thoughts, etc. We then translate this information into our own thoughts.

While discussing meditation, I mentioned that I had trouble meditating. She gave me a book called ‘Wisdom of Yoga’. However, she mentioned that this book was kind of out of date. This book only meant something to me much later in the future when it became a book that a co-worker told me was the most impactful book she had read.

The last thing we did was pendulum work, which I found very interesting. We would take a pendulum and ask it a yes or no question that we first knew the answer to. For example: ‘Is my name Connor?’. We would track how the pendulum moves while my hand is completely steady. Once I understand what a yes looks like and a no looks like, I can then ask a question and see what the answer comes out as. It was interesting how accurate it was. However, this does not make me think that this can predict the future. That is probably the thing that would first come to mind for most people (and probably what I have even tried to do before). However, the future is in motion and also does not really matter in the grand scheme of things. So a yes or no question asking about the future is usually a waste of time for me. Pendulums can also be used to show which Chakras are opened/ closed.

Reflecting back on this trip, I have dealt with many of these tools over the past few years. I didn’t fully understand it at the time, but this specific session may have been the most important one out of all of them!
