Saved by the Light by Dannion Brinkley

I am not sure I fully recommend this book. I also do not remember a whole lot of insights aside from the notes that I took. Just the overview was that the author died and had a near-death experience before coming back. He was not the best person before his experience, but he became a different person afterward and sought to be better.

Notes:

  • His out of body experience mirrors some of the wording that Robert Monroe talked about. “Rolled over in my body”. – I find it interesting when books connect in subtle ways to one another.
  • After he died, he saw a tunnel forming like an eye of a hurricane – A lot of near death experiences talk about feeling a pull and as if you are being sucked up through a tunnel. Its kind of interesting because our society likes to say “I see the light at the end of the tunnel”. I wonder where that phrase came from? Or why it sticks with us.
  • Saw a light and went towards it, and heard 7 chimes. – 7 is usually a sacred number. Also in near death experiences, people generally see a light which is a being that helps us to review our life. Religious people tend to see religious figures in this being, but it also can just be a spirit guide that watches over us.
  • When he has his life review he felt the emotional pain that he caused people and the emotions of the next people they interacted with. – This is another common theme with Near Death Experiences. I wonder if this is like Hell or Purgatory that people describe. We get to feel every emotion that we cause other people. By doing so, we can live within our own personal Hell as we relive these moments.
  • He sat in structures of crystal where he could tell they were places of learning – When people describe the other side, there is a common theme of it appearing like a school or place of learning. The structures often look like different things, such as a school or a temple.
  • He was in the presences of angels that radiated a deep blue. He kne they were the best of their kind. – This was similar to the imagery presented in Journey of Souls. When Michael Newton would regress people and ask them what color their souls were, he would determine how ‘Old’ a soul was based on the color. Generally, those with a deep blue or purple color were souls that were advanced. Generally those that would soon not need to incarnate on Earth anymore.
  • Visions of potential futures, where nothing is necessarily set in stone – This is a big lesson I have learned in seeing visions of the future. People that try to tell the future and get it “wrong” is difficult to measure. Those futures could have just been potentials that were avoided because of the free will we have. I think this is one reason why Christianity condemns fortune-telling. It is silly to live life by trying to live in the future… Also Christianity probably does that because it potentially takes power away from them, but that is a different topic entirely.
  • He is to create centers where everything will come to him.
  • He did not want to leave the other side – This is also common in Near Death Experiences. It was something that one of my spiritual mentors mentioned in her NDE. There is this feeling of whole-ness that occurs and people do not want to leave the otherside.
  • Using light to change the vibratory frequency of cells to heal – When I meditate, I imagine different colors of light flowing through my body to heal myself in different ways.
  • Stress reduction is the way to improve life and live longer. I feel like that is obvious, but I thought it was a good reminder.
  • After life review, the being of light said to forgive everyone that ever crossed him. If he could not, he’d be stuck at the level of spiritual virbation he is currently occupying. – I have seen this expressed as Karma in other books. In one life, if someone does something to us (or vice versa) that causes pain which cannot be forgiven, usually it requires us to play out the experience in reverse in another life so that lessons can be learned for both people. I think that genuine forgiveness breaks the cycle.
