Thunder Moon 2020

Today, I asked to join in the full moon ceremony that Caitlyn frequents. I knew there would be some yoga involved, and since I have been reading The Wisdom of Yoga, I have been eager to try to get into it again. Especially since Tai Chi will likely not be available for a while due to COVID-19.

At the start of the ceremony, Caitlyn chose a tarot adjacent deck of cards that have all Greek related mythology characters (yes I did buy this for her as a gift at one point). Anyway, two cards came to me – the rainbow goddess Iris and the hero Odysseus. Two very fitting cards right off the bat. Iris’ card had ‘harmony’ written on it and Odysseus had ‘journey’ written on it. Very serendipitous.

The yoga instructor spent a little bit talking about the Thunder Moon and what it means to us. She also mentioned that the moon is in Capricorn and the sun is in Cancer, and further explained that Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, and Pluto are all in retrograde. All of the above could literally mean nothing to me since I do not read into Astrology that much. In fact, I consider myself fairly skeptical about it. It is tough for me, only because there are so many different interpretations of what the above could mean.

HOWEVER, let me tell you, the words that these instructors were saying to explain the astrological significance of everything to us was mind-blowing.

The instructors explained that because of the retrogrades, we are seeking to understand the collective journey from where we come from. We question the lessons from our roots and we reflect deeply upon it. This was literally a conversation I had with Caitlyn yesterday about how my dad’s trial is also reflected in me. Caitlyn is also learning similar lessons because of her roots. It has also been reflected in many blog posts over the past few days.

Next, the instructors prompted a beautiful question for me to always remember and consider: who says that abundance needs to come with struggle?

This is a concept that I have already heard of thanks to the Law of Attraction. However, I didn’t think to apply it to lessons and growth. I equate growth to abundance in some way. Who says that I have to learn lessons by struggling? Who says that I need to work 60 hours a week and then also be a grad student to learn the lessons I need to learn. There are always other ways to learn the same lessons.

Another synchronous point was because of Neptune retrograde, we often feel like we need to keep doing something regardless if we actually need to. They used the example of saying ‘I have to..’. If you are saying you have to do something, you transition yourself into a Martyr mindset. This has also been at the forefront of my thoughts lately. I have talked about how I need to remember the lesson of dropping things when they do not serve me. I can always come back and pick it up. If I tell myself, ‘I have to read these books.’, ‘I have to work 60 hours a week’, etc., then I will transition myself into this Martyr mindset. This will cause more damage than good, regardless of the intentions.

They also talked about polarity and how the fact that the moon is in Capricorn and the sun is in Cancer shows these opposites. They talked a lot about finding harmony and balance, which was very synchronous with what I was discussing with a colleague right before the weekend. They also said that balance does not mean you are in the middle of the two polar sides. A middle does not truly exist. Regardless of being central, we still oscillate between both polarities naturally, and that is how it should be.

Lastly, they talked about the Lunar Eclipse that happened last night. They said this would be the final one that occurs while the sun and moon are in their positions. The first one happened in July 2018 so this final one signifies the last cosmic push of the themes that started 2 years ago.

I find it interesting that my journey started in February 2018. I’ll still keep growing, but I do feel like I am closing many chapters on my understanding of what happened and what it means to me from 2 years ago. The many conversations I have had over the past two weeks have truly helped with this.

I do not know if the astrological significance of the celestial bodies that these yoga instructors taught us about and used to guide us through meditation can be truly verified. However, synchronicity struck over and over again in such a deep and meaningful way that I have to at least keep my mind open to the possibilities. In any event, they said what I needed to hear to feel a deeper sense of connection and for that I am grateful.
